How to Use Google Trends to Discover Rising Related Queries

Google Trends is a versatile tool that is excellent for researching keywords, demographics, changes in trends and much, much more. One data set that is particularly useful when researching ideas for content marketing is the related queries that are rising in frequency or popularity. Let’s take a look at how to find this data and then I’ll touch on a few ways this can be useful.

Start by visiting Google Trends and type in a search term or topic that you would like to write about.

Once the overall results are served, you can refine your results to meet the needs of your research, including location, time range, category and type of search (web search, image search, etc.).

As you scroll down in the results, you will find a Related Queries box that has a sort option, which should default to Rising. If it doesn’t, change the filter to be Rising instead of Top. This will giving you 20-25 related queries that have had the biggest increase in search frequency since the last time period.

How to Use the Related Queries Data

Now that you know how to find these related queries for any of your topics or target search terms, you can use it in a number of interesting ways. A few examples include:
